Russia and Georgia have been in brotherly relations for many years. Recently, this direction has become one of the most visited by Russian tourists. After the conflict of 2018, people were agitated by the question of how they treat Russians now and is it worth choosing this country for recreation?

The true attitude of Georgians towards Russian people

There is no point in hiding that local residents of Georgia receive their main income from Russian tourists. Therefore, they try not to touch on the topic of politics, so as not to offend their guest. Georgians believe that the information war is being fought on both sides and that everything that is covered in the media cannot be trusted.

But there are individuals who equate political relations with human ones and speak out negatively towards Russians. Indigenous people rarely react to attempts to develop a conflict, considering it a stupid, useless provocation.

Most Georgians, especially those of the old generation, speak of Russians with love and awe. This is due to several reasons:

  • Many have relatives living on the territory of the Russian Federation. Often there are those who have worked here themselves.
  • Friendship between Georgia and Russia dates back to Soviet times. Few are ready to give up these fond memories.
  • These peoples are united by a single faith - Christianity. It is partly because of her that our mentality is so similar.
  • Although Russian is not considered a national language, almost everyone speaks it there, especially representatives of the older generation.
  • The love for big, noisy holidays is also worth mentioning. Georgians are incredibly friendly people with a wide soul. Not a single meal goes by without delicious wine and national dishes, which Russians liked.

Extra charge in a cafe for Russians

According to some vacationers, the only place in the country where you can see a prejudiced attitude towards Russians is the city of Sighnaghi. There, on one of the cafes, there is an announcement that a 20% mark-up is provided for Russian tourists. But it is hardly worth drawing conclusions about hostility based on this. Moreover, if in other locations the reception of guests has always been in the best traditions of Georgia.

Georgia is a wonderful country with its own characteristics and traditions. One of them is love and friendliness. Do not be afraid to come here because of political conflicts. Let them be decided at the level of the higher authorities. Human relations should not suffer from this, especially when it is friendship between Russians and Georgians.
