Cases when you need to change your passport:

  1. Its damage, loss or theft;
  2. Errors found in it;
  3. Execution of a certain age (20 or 45 years old);
  4. The change:

  • Places, dates of birth;
  • Paul;
  • Appearance.

Replacement Bodies

The only body that has the right to do this is the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (or, in short, the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs). Other bodies are intermediaries.

Sometimes this procedure is carried out only through the GUFM of the Ministry of Internal Affairs:

  • Upon initial receipt at the age of 18;
  • In case of theft or loss;
  • Receipt of a document by a person with limited legal capacity;
  • If you need to get a temporary ID.

In other cases, for speed and convenience, you can apply to other authorities:

  • Nearest MFC (multifunctional center);

To change an old document to a new one, you need to take a number of steps:

  1. Submit a package of documents;
  2. Pay the state fee;
  3. Show up for a new passport.

You can complete the first step either in person (at the MFC or the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs), or via the Internet (through the State Services portal). In electronic form, you can only submit an application, and for the result you need to go to the employees of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

MFC used to only accept documents. But from February 1, 2017, you can get a new passport right there. This change was determined by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated November 18, 2016 No. 1214.

How many days you have to wait for the result after contacting depends on the place of residence:

  1. If a person has applied to the appropriate authority at the place of registration, waiting time - 10 days;
  2. If the person is registered elsewhere, the duration is increased to 30 days. These deadlines are correct if the application was submitted directly to the GUFM of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
  3. If a person contacted the MFC employees, it is worth adding about 6 more days to the deadline established by law: that is how much is required for the package of documents to reach the Ministry of Internal Affairs and return to the multifunctional center. This is not against the law. When contacting the MFC, the day of receipt of the application will be the one on which it reached the Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The duration of the procedure can be increased if the passport is lost or stolen. The person reports it no later than 30 days after the loss, but the GUFM of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is obliged to establish his identity. It happens that this requires additional time, but the law provides for such an additional check. no more than 5 days.

How long does it take to replace a passport

A certain time is given for the submission of documents after the occurrence of the circumstances listed above. This cannot be done in advance (for example, at the age of 19).

By age (at 20 and 45 years old)
