More than 5 million visit the Dominican Republic annually. And so it was, until a series of strange deaths among vacationers began.
There are deaths, no reasons
Over the past 2 years, 6 tourists have already died in this country under unclear circumstances. It is noteworthy that they all came from the United States. Perhaps, much fewer people would have learned about these mysterious deaths, if not for the insistence of the family of the deceased Robert Wallace. The man was resting at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana.
The rest was great until Wallace had a whiskey at the hotel bar. After that, his condition deteriorated sharply, and the man died suddenly.
The family members of Robert Wallace never found out the cause of his death. Having found out that 5 people had already died in this way, they decided to involve the public and the media in the investigation of the mysterious deaths and find out what caused the deaths.
Half of the tourists who died were staying at the Bahia Principe Hotel, and all the victims decided to have a glass of spirits at the hotel bars. After a while, they felt acute malaise and died.
The autopsy results showed a suspicious similarity in the causes of death - pulmonary edema and respiratory failure. But what led to this? This is still a mystery, because the local authorities are in no hurry to talk to the relatives of the victims.
So, the sister of an American woman, Monica Spot, who died in 2018, claims that they have not yet been provided with a toxicological report, and after all, more than a year has passed since the woman's death.
The owners of the chain of hotels in which these terrible stories occurred, assure that the media simply tried to present the incident in the most negative light. In fact, the Dominican Republic is glad to welcome its guests, in the hotels of the Bahia Principe chain tourists will find a comfortable rest and complete safety.
But many people no longer dream of a vacation in the Dominican Republic. Unexplained deaths make them choose other countries for travel.
Facts and guesses
So far, there are not many versions of what happened. The most plausible are revenge of offended former hotel employees or poisoning with substances that scare away insects.
Some speculate that this is the work of the Dominican's envious Haitian neighbors. In recent years, the Dominican Republic has been successfully developing its tourism business; coffee, tobacco and sugar are grown for export. On the other half of the island - Haiti - things are going badly. Constant political upheavals, natural disasters do not allow people to get out of terrible poverty. Perhaps by grassing tourists in Dominican Republic hotels, Haitians are seeking revenge for their relative well-being.
Be that as it may, but on June 1, a tourist from Moscow died in the Dominican Republic. Barely arriving in the country, Maria Cheremushkina felt unwell, but urgent help was not provided to her. As a result, the woman died in a taxi on the way to the hospital. For recreation, Maria chose the hotel "Casa Marina Beach and Reef 3 *".
