A temporary residence permit gives the right to live, study and work in the Russian Federation for three years with minimum restrictions. Upon expiration of the document, the foreigner must decide whether he receives a residence permit or leaves the country.

Is it possible to extend the RVP in Russia

The stay of migrants in Russia is regulated by Law No. 115-FZ. The legislation directly establishes the standard validity period of the RVP (36 months) and the impossibility of extending the document. After its expiration, a foreign citizen must either leave the country and go through the registration procedure again, or obtain a residence permit / citizenship. There are no other options for registration and renewal.

Important! Any organizations that promise to extend the temporary residence permit in Russia directly are scammers, since such a procedure is not provided for either by Russian law or by the regulations of the migration service.

Nevertheless, there is still a public request for an extension of the RWP, so law firms still provide such a service. When contacting, you should find out what exactly is meant by renewal - obtaining a new document after the cancellation of the old one or assistance in registering a residence permit.

Obtaining a residence permit after a temporary residence permit

To obtain a residence permit, the holder of a temporary residence permit must submit an application to the migration service no later than six months before the expiration of the permit.

You will also need the following set of documents:

  • Application for a residence permit ;;

  • Operating RVP;
  • Personal income tax certificate or any other confirmation of stable income;
  • Proof of housing availability;
  • Current employment contract;
  • Original TIN.

Having handed over the documents to the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the migrant can expect to receive a residence permit for a five-year period with an unlimited possibility of extension.

To issue a permit again, you must wait for the expiration date of the document and leave the country. The exit must be calculated so that it still falls on an active permit, and you can enter back when the document is already over. You cannot issue a permit in advance, but you can prepare all the necessary documents.

It is not necessary to resign from work if the employer can issue a work permit for a foreigner under a quota. If this is not possible, it is possible to issue it yourself - the expired RVP does not interfere with this in any way.

Re-registration of documents is no different from the initial one. The second three-year period does not have any advantages or disadvantages compared to the first; all the same documents and registration conditions are required for registration. If the previous RVP was canceled, or the request for receipt was rejected, it is allowed to apply again one year after the date of the previous application. When the term expires, there are no such restrictions, you can send an application immediately after the expiration of the previous one.

Also, accelerated registration without taking into account the quota is carried out for the following applicants:

  • Citizens of other countries born in the RSFSR or the Russian Federation;
  • Have disabled children / parents who are Russian citizens;
  • Married to a citizen of the Russian Federation;
  • Enrolled in military service;
  • Large investors.

In other cases, re-registration will have to be carried out within a limited annual quota, proving its usefulness and prospects for the country at an interview.

Pros and cons of different options

Each of the methods has its own noticeable disadvantages. So, obtaining a residence permit is possible if there is at least six months left until the end of the term. In most cases, for those who are interested in the issue of extending the temporary residence permit, it is too late to obtain a residence permit.

A temporary residence permit is issued for up to six months. During this time, a foreigner may lose his job, there may be problems with housing, municipal services.

The third, intermediate way is obtaining a visa and a work permit. For residents of the CIS countries, these documents are relatively easy to draw up, and they will help the migrant not to lose the achievements earned by hard work.

What is Annual Residency Notice

The sixth article 115-FZ indicates that a foreign citizen who has received a permit is obliged to report annually to the migration service. You need to send a notification after 12 months from the date of receipt of the document, with a possible delay of 2 months.

The procedure is necessary for registering foreign migrants of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and is an additional line of defense against illegal emigration. To send a confirmation, you must submit a completed notification form and a certificate of official income for the year to the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
