An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 shook the American state of Idaho

The earthquake happened on 31.03. 2021 without any reported damage or casualties.

The massive earthquake, which was felt across the state, occurred around 6:00 pm local time and lasted 20 to 30 seconds, residents said.

“Yes, we felt it too. There are currently no reports of damage, ”the Boyes Police Department said on Twitter.

The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was in a remote mountainous area northeast of the state capital, Boise.

The tremor at a depth of six miles (10 kilometers) was felt in six neighboring states, including Nevada and Montana.

Paul Bodin, head of the University of Washington Seismology Laboratory, told the local ABC station that the last major earthquake shook the state in 1983.

Boise Mayor Lauren McLean tweeted that local officials "are checking all facilities and Public Security personnel are conducting structural checks in the city center and in our neighborhoods."

The earthquake on Tuesday came less than two weeks after a major magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the neighboring state of Utah.
