Hotels for domestic tourists have been opened in Egypt since May 15. All newly opened hostels in the country received a safety certificate - a document confirming the hotel's compliance with all health standards and permission to resume work.

Without a health certificate, hotels are not allowed to host guests. Currently, 18 hotels already have official permits for full-fledged work with the condition that hotel rooms are occupied by 25%, and from June 1, the load will increase to 50%.

New mandatory standards require resorts to adhere to strict preventative guidelines:

  • resort staff must wear protective masks and rubber gloves;
  • the rooms of guests and throughout the resort must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily;
  • hotel management must provide disinfectants to staff and guests;
  • on the territory of the hotel, there must be a first-aid post with a physician and special isolation rooms equipped in case of detection of Covid-19 in a vacationer;
  • before a new check-in, all hotel employees will take express tests for Covid-19;
  • mass events inside hotels are prohibited;
  • closed SPA centers and jacuzzi at hotels;
  • an age restriction has been introduced: hotels in Egypt will not accept guests over 48 years old;
  • obligatory disinfection of visitors' luggage upon arrival and departure from the hotel;
  • check-in of guests will take place online.
  • The buffet service has been canceled, instead customers will order their own food from the menu. In this case, the distance between the table should be at least 1.5 meters, and no more than 2 people at one table.

Since May 15, the Committee for Tourism and the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health has conducted inspections at 27 hotels in the Red Sea, South Sinai and Mediterranean provinces of Matruh.

The results of the check were announced by the Assistant Minister of Tourism of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Asi. The politician said that all WHO recommendations were implemented by 18 hotels, of which 9 are located in the Red Sea, seven are in South Sinai and two more are in Matruh province.

The remaining 9 hotels that have not received the certificate will be revisited a little later. It is worth noting that all hotels in the country will be able to receive a certificate from the Ministry of Tourism, subject to all WHO recommendations and an appeal to the committee with a request to resume activities.

Recall that due to the pandemic in Egypt in early March, all mass places, including city beaches, were closed. Currently, the beaches are open only on the territory of those hotels that have received a certificate.
