To drive a vehicle abroad, a citizen of the Russian Federation will need to issue an international driver's license (IDP). To do this, you must apply for an international driving license in 2021. At the same time, it is important to carefully fill out each column and provide the correct data.

What is an IDP and why is it issued

IDP (International Driving Permit, IDP - international driving license) is a document that is a translation of data from a national driving license into French, Arabic, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese.

For the first time, IDPs were mentioned and approved by the Paris Convention of the Road Traffic in 1926. Then the requirements for this document were described in the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic and in the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic in force today.

Each of these documents more and more unified the Road Traffic Rules (SDA) adopted on the territory of the countries that ratified them. Joining the convention gives the right to drive a vehicle on the territory of all participating countries on the basis of national licenses obtained from the results of driving exams and the current International VU.

International rights are valid only if there is a valid national VU.

To issue an IDP, the driver does not need to undergo additional testing and medical checks. The validity of the document is 3 years, but no longer than the validity period of the national driver's license. Read more about what you need to get an IDP.
