The Republic of China or Taiwan is located on the island of the same name in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of mainland China. Partially recognized, the state maintains relations with many countries. Therefore, information about how a visa to Taiwan is issued is of interest to citizens from all over the world, including Russians. The modern metropolis of Taipei attracts students and businessmen. Taiwanese resort towns beckon tourists who want to admire Buddhist temples, natural parks and ancient architecture, relax on quiet beaches.

Introduction of a visa-free regime

In 2021, Russian citizens received the right to stay in Taiwan without a visa for 14 days. The visa-free regime was introduced on September 6, 2021, and is currently being tested. Therefore, a visa to Taiwan for Russians in 2021 is not yet needed - until July 31. After the end of the test period, a decision will be made to extend or terminate the visa-free regime.

Conditions for visiting Taiwan without a visa

A visa is not issued if the purpose of the visit is tourism, participation in business events, visiting relatives, international exhibitions. For trips lasting more than 14 days, you must apply for a visa. For CIS citizens, the rules of entry to the island have not changed - a visit is possible after obtaining a visa.

Required papers

In order to freely enter the island, Russian citizens need to prepare documents. To go through border control, you will need to provide:

  • a foreign passport valid for more than 6 months from the date of entry into the country;
  • return flight ticket (ship ticket) or booked ticket to the next destination (if there is a transfer) and a valid visa (if necessary);
  • hotel booking confirmation or contact details of a person residing in Taiwan;
  • confirmation of solvency.

One of the main conditions is the absence of a criminal record. The Taiwanese authorities have the right to check whether the visitor has been convicted of a crime. According to travelers' reviews, verification is usually not carried out.

For a trip with a child

If children travel with two parents, it is enough that a child under the age of 14 is entered in the foreign passport of one of the parents or has its own passport. In a situation where a minor enters Taiwan with one parent, the notarized consent of the father or mother will be required.

When a child leaves without parents with relatives or as part of a group, you need to prepare a notarial permission to leave from both parents indicating the person who will accompany the child on the trip.

It is recommended that you bring a certified copy of your birth certificate with you if:

  • the minor and his parent traveling with him have different surnames;
  • the child travels abroad on a separate foreign passport.

How many days can you stay on the island

The period of stay in Taiwan begins on the day of entry. The visa-free regime does not provide for an extension of the period of stay: Russian citizens are required to leave before the end of the established period.

For violation of the terms of stay, Russians face a fine. Persons planning to stay on the island for more than 14 days must apply for a visa in advance.
