Often, travelers want to go to the capital of Portugal, so many of them are wondering how to get from Malaga to Lisbon.

You can get from Spain to Portugal by different types of public transport. Buses and airplanes run between Malaga and Lisbon. You can also get there by car. There is no direct train from Malaga to the capital of Portugal; it is convenient to change trains in Madrid.

How to get there by train

A direct train to Lisbon runs from Madrid. It departs at 21:43 and arrives at 7:20 - thus, you will spend 10 hours 37 minutes on the way.

Trains from Malaga to Madrid operate throughout the day, with the first departing at 06:20 and the last at 20:15; travel time - 2 hours 40 minutes. In total, you will spend about 15 hours on the way.

If you do not want to sit for a long time at the train station of the Spanish capital, then it is convenient to leave Malaga at 17:00 and arrive in Madrid at 19:45.

Railways in Spain are quite expensive, so a train ride will cost you about 142 euros: 80 euros for a ticket from Malaga to Madrid and 62 euros - from Madrid to Lisbon.

From Malaga, the train departs from the Malaga Maria Zambrano station, and in Madrid arrives at the Puerta de Atocha station. Since the train to Lisbon departs from Chamartin station, you can get from one station to another by commuter train. Travel time is 15 minutes: you only need to travel 3 stops.

The train arrives in Lisbon at the Estacion Oriente station.

Despite the fact that you will spend only 1 hour 35 minutes in the sky, the journey itself will take longer, since you need to arrive at the airport at least an hour and a half before departure in order to register, check documents, luggage. You also need to get to Malaga airport and upon arrival in the capital of Portugal - from the station in Lisbon.

Malaga-Costa del Sol International Airport is located just 8 km from the historic center of Malaga.

  • You can get from the airport to the city center by using the Express Airport bus.

The ticket price is only 3 euros, and you will spend 15-20 minutes on the way. The first bus from the center leaves at 6:25 am and the last one leaves at 11:30 pm.
