Priority of actions

The algorithm of actions is usually as follows:

  1. The director of the company helps the future employee to obtain a work permit.
  2. The applicant goes to the consulate and draws up a work visa.
  3. An existing employee goes to Lithuania and starts work.

Types of work permits

To obtain the right to work, you need to issue a work permit before entering the state. This rule does not apply to EU residents and persons who have permanent residence in Lithuania.

You can get a work permit in the Republic 2 months after the submission of documents. The document is issued for 2 years, in the future it can be renewed several times. A seasonal work permit is valid for 1 year and is issued once every six months.

Are there categories that do not require a work permit

Some professionals do not need a work permit. These include:

  • foreigners who work in the missions of foreign states;
  • permanent employees of companies established by a state that is a member of the European Union;
  • citizens participating in state development programs with the involvement of foreign companies;
  • athletes and professional coaches;

Registration of a work visa

A work visa is issued at the Lithuanian Embassy. Initially, a person is required to find an employer and issue a work permit. The director notifies the Lithuanian labor exchange about the opening of vacant places for employment.

The vacancy "hangs" for 30 days. If there is no local employee applying for this position, then the employer is allowed to hire a foreigner.

After that, the future employee must go to the diplomatic mission of Lithuania and present all the necessary documents specified above.

Selection criteria for visa applicants

A potential candidate must:

  • have a good reputation;
  • know at least basic Lithuanian;
  • have the necessary work experience;
  • to document their skills and abilities.

Work visa extension

A work visa can be easily extended for 1 year without leaving the Republic of Lithuania. For this, a statement is written, which is further considered by the local migration service.

Business immigration

Business immigration to Lithuania is possible if the entrepreneur has shares in Lithuanian companies or has his own registered business. If we talk about the second case, then a businessman's firm must have been operating for at least six months.

The following conditions must be met:

  • Minimum start-up capital required at 28,000 euros.
  • The company must employ at least 1 employee (a citizen of the European Union, Lithuania or a foreign person permanently residing in the territory of the Republic).

A businessman can get a residence permit in Lithuania after 5 years. But there is an important condition - he should not be absent from the country for more than 10 months.

Entrepreneurs who have invested in the Lithuanian economy will be able to immigrate in the shortest possible time at least 260,000 euros and created from 5 jobs. A businessman is quickly issued citizenship, and he has the right to transfer his family to the Republic.

Features of internship in the country

It is most convenient for young people to undergo internships in Lithuania by taking part in government programs. They are regularly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

It is allowed to undergo an introductory internship, its program includes:

  • lectures on the culture and economy of the state;
  • study of the Lithuanian language.

Internships in specialties in the agricultural industry and environmental protection are popular among practicing specialists. The leader in this area is the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.

As part of its programs, students gain new knowledge:

  • about land use;
  • on the organization of environmental protection measures;
  • on the rules for storing solid household waste.

Consequences for attempting an illegal job placement

Russian-speaking foreigners often work in Lithuania illegally. This is due to gaps in local legislation. In 2021, there are several thousand emigrants living in the country who do not even know the language. For each illegal immigrant, a fine is paid in the amount of 60,000 rubles... But such people are rarely identified, so they work for the minimum wage and live in unbearable conditions.

An employee engaged in illegal work pays all previously received social assistance for unemployment in favor of the country. Deportation and blacklisting is rare.

Lithuanian companies employ foreigners, but they still give preference to local residents. To find a job for a good position, you need useful skills and knowledge of several languages. In addition, intermediaries or friends who already live in Lithuania can help when looking for a job.
