Sweden is one of the Scandinavian countries that have signed the Schengen agreement. Here, democratic norms and general visa requirements for the Schengen area are fully observed.

What categories of visas exist

Swedish visas are divided into two main categories - Schengen and national. The former belong to category C, the latter to category D:

1. Category C visas - Schengen - issued for a short period, provided for:

  • Short business visits;
  • Tourist travel;
  • Visiting loved ones living in the country;
  • International cultural and sports events;
  • Participation in scientific projects, in the activities of charitable organizations;
  • Those cases where Sweden is used as a transit area.

2. Category D visas- national - are long-term and are intended for any purpose that requires staying here for a longer time (more than three months every six months).

A Swedish national visa is also given after receiving and checking a package of documents drawn up on the basis of common Schengen standards. With this visa, you can only visit Sweden, travel to other countries is not possible.

Possible ways of registration

An independent solution of the issue is not difficult, here you can completely do without intermediary services.

The main thing is that the documents are drawn up with maximum accuracy and do not contain errors:

  • A Russian can obtain short-term permits in any of two ways: at the embassy or at a visa center with payment of a service fee. When visiting Stockholm for tourist purposes, you can use the help of the visa center, as well as draw up paperwork with the help of a travel agency;
  • For obtaining national visas, you need to apply directly to the representatives of the state immigration service: these permits can be provided exclusively by the embassy or the Consulate General in St. Petersburg;
  • Belarusians who are on the territory of the Russian Federation must apply for the right to enter the country directly at the embassy.

Visa centers operate in all major cities of Russia. Reception takes place without an appointment; for registration, the applicant's consent to the processing of data is required (must be filled out in advance).

Where to go

It is possible to get to the reception in the capital (consular section of the embassy), which usually takes place in the first half of the day, only by prior arrangement. The phone number of the visa center where the registration is made is +7 (495) 668-14-94. You need to call during business hours, here they will provide all the necessary information, answer questions.

The General Consulate of Sweden works in St. Petersburg. He is responsible for issuing long-term visas - work, study, residence permits. It does not provide Schengen, for this purpose there is only a visa center.

The consulate in St. Petersburg does not deal with issuing long-term permits for citizens registered and living in Murmansk, Arkhangelsk and the region.

They must submit papers to the Consulate General of Norway, which is located in Murmansk (with a further application for a residence permit in the capital or St. Petersburg). Citizens of Karelia apply for short-term and long-term visas at the office of the Consulate General of Finland in Petrozavodsk.

What documents are needed for registration

The Swedish Immigration Service is punctual. All documents from the list, mandatory for the Schengen area, must be completed with maximum accuracy.

The package of documents includes:

  • Application written by hand or by computer, personally signed by the applicant;
  • General civil passport, issued no later than ten years ago, with two (at least) pages free of any information;
  • A photocopy of its first page (as well as pages containing information about the applicant, his registration, marital status, on the issuance of previous foreign passports);
  • Two photographs that comply with ICAO standards.

To obtain a national visa, in addition to the general package of documents, you will need a separate letter justifying the need for a long stay.

How to fill out an application form

The questionnaire is a common reason for delays in obtaining a visa. Blots, changing symbols, incomplete or inaccurate information are inadmissible.

Everything needs to be done as accurately as possible:

  • The questionnaire is filled in in the Latin alphabet; when writing personal data, a patronymic is not required;
  • If the surname has never changed, there is no need to put any signs in this column at all (any word or even a dash can become the basis for returning the document to the applicant);
  • It is unacceptable to change the date filling format;
  • In terms of the form of writing, all data must be one hundred percent consistent with the information contained in the passport;
  • It is important to provide the consulate with data on the actual place of residence at the time of the trip (even if there is no registration), as well as phone numbers (mobile and backup), which the consulate staff can call and ask questions;
  • A photograph for the Swedish consulate must be glued to the application, the application itself must be printed (on both sides of the sheet or one, as it is more convenient).

The questionnaire is made by each participant of the trip; the parents (or their substitutes) fill it out and sign it for the children.

Additional list of documents

If your visit to Sweden is related to business and has a business nature, the Swedish Immigration Service must have information about this without fail. In this case, it is necessary for the embassy to prepare an invitation letter from a company officially registered in the country.

The letter must contain the following information:

  • Type of document;
  • The exact name of the organization;
  • Information about the leader;
  • Contact details for verification;
  • Information about the invitee;
  • Purpose of visiting the country;
  • Dates of visits, their frequency;
  • The hotel or apartment where the invited person will live;
  • The signature of the head and the seal of the organization.

The invitation is provided in the original, a copy of the registration certificate of the inviting company is attached to it. If the trip is paid for by the inviting party, an additional sponsorship letter is drawn up.

If permission is required to visit loved ones officially residing in Sweden (relatives or friends), the application must be accompanied by:

  • Passport of a Swedish citizen (copy) acting as an inviter;
  • Invitation letter;
  • Details of the inviting party (extract from the Swedish register of Familjebevis).

If the purpose of the trip is tourism, the list of additional documents includes:

  • Information about employment (certificate from work about salary, position, length of service, leave and guarantees of job retention);
  • Sponsorship letter from the travel financier (for unemployed);
  • If there are no other justifications for financial solvency, an account statement on the presence of funds in the amount of forty US dollars for daily needs is sufficient;
  • Information about the place of residence during the trip, indicating the duration of the settlement, account number and contact information for verification;
  • Confirmation of the availability of round-trip tickets (printout of the electronic version, booking information);
  • Standard medical insurance valid in the territory of the Schengen countries.

The list of documents for granting a transit permit (transit visa) will be the same as for a tourist one. The application must be accompanied by:

  • Document with a mark of the country of destination;
  • Copies of tickets;
  • Data on the place of residence (if the time of stay is at least a day).

For seniors and minors

Applicants who are retired, when submitting an application form, attach to it a copy of the pension certificate, as well as the original sponsorship letter (in the absence of an official letter of invitation from relatives).

Children will need:

  • Application form;
  • Birth certificate;
  • Standard package of papers for Schengen;
  • Letter of permission to leave the country (from a parent not participating in the trip);
  • Power of attorney for an accompanying person from both parents confirming responsibility for the child.

A separate foreign passport is issued for a child who has reached the age of fourteen. Prior to this, the visa is pasted into the parent's passport.

For a trip in a car

Drivers (and each of the passengers) to travel by private car will need to present:

  • Papers confirming the fact of registration of the car in the country of permanent residence;
  • A copy of the STS;
  • Driver's license;
  • Green Card.

Medical examination, fingerprinting

In order to provide a Swedish visa, the Immigration Office needs biometric data. They are rented out simultaneously with the submission of documents at the embassy or visa center. Specialists scan the prints of all fingers on their hands (the information will be in a single database on demand when new documents are received).

A medical examination may be required to obtain insurance.

Terms of registration

The term for consideration of securities is three business days. The mediation of visa centers increases it by a few more days. Urgent registration of visas is possible only by contacting the immigration service directly, the visa center does not have such powers.

When reviewing visa applications, there is often a need for additional verification of information. The applicant can be summoned for an interview, the documents are sent to Stockholm. The term for consideration is getting longer - up to several months.

All questions related to the delay of documents are recommended to be asked by phone at the visa centers.

How to get a passport with a visa

The passport can be obtained during a personal visit to the embassy, as well as using a courier service.

How much does registration cost

The standard consular fee is 2600 rubles (double rate for urgency is possible in case of provision of already purchased tickets and good reason). If the visa is denied, the funds will still go to cover organizational costs and will not be refunded.

The consular fee is not charged for:

  • Children;
  • Schoolchildren;
  • Families of EU citizens;
  • Persons officially invited by the state.

If you use the services of visa centers, the financial costs increase for 1575 rubles.

About the validity period

The time of stay is determined by the purpose of the trip and is calculated based on the data specified in the invitation letter.

The duration of the visa is also related to the period of booking the accommodation.

  • Multiple entry visas are granted for a period of one to five years;
  • The maximum period of stay in Sweden on a national visa is two years;
  • By transit - five days.

A national visa can be extended directly in the country on a separate application (if the reason for the application is recognized as valid).

Refusals

Refusals at the Swedish embassy are possible in the event of:

  • Careless paperwork;
  • Providing an incomplete package of documents;
  • Inaccuracy of the information provided;
  • Violations of the laws of the country and the rules of stay in the Schengen area.

The refusal can be contested in court.

Reviews

Elena, 55 years old, Moscow:I went to the website of the embassy. I read what documentary requirements Sweden has, collected everything for a long time and diligently, and rechecked it several times. Submitting documents at the embassy was simple: they paid close attention only to filling out the questionnaire, the rest of the package was quickly reviewed, no questions were asked. I received my passport a week later.

Talgat, 23 years old, Stockholm:I was born in Uzbekistan and received a family reunification visa five years ago. My parents and brother were already there, I had to wait almost five months, being in Russia, interrupting with odd jobs. I got a visa only when I already found a permanent job in Moscow. I chose Sweden and have no regrets: I have mastered the language for free, now I am studying at the university.

A Swedish visa for a short trip can be obtained on time, there are no additional difficulties here. Obtaining a national visa will require more time and more thorough data verification.
