In order for a foreigner to have the right to work during his visit to the Russian Federation, he needs to apply for a work visa. The document is issued for a period of one to three years, and allows official registration for most vacancies, except for those prohibited by law for foreigners and some quotas.

What does a work visa give

A work visa, unlike a regular one, does not limit the time of stay in the country until its expiration (for example, a business visa is allowed to stay for 3 months every six months).

The document does not give an unlimited work permit, it is drawn up at the invitation of a specific organization. In the event of a break in relations with her or employment in another company, the visa is canceled. You cannot apply for a visa without an invitation.

Important! Those who cannot receive an invitation should consider the option of moving and obtaining a temporary residence permit (temporary residence permit), and then apply for a patent that gives the right to work. This path is much longer and does not limit the applicant to one company.

For the countries of residents of the Customs Union (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan), entry into the country and work are allowed without additional documents and patents.

Procedure for obtaining a work visa to Russia

The documents are mainly drawn up on the side of the employer who is ready to provide an invitation. The procedure looks like this:

  1. The employer receives a quota for inviting specialists from abroad. The size of the quota depends on the size and turnover of the company. Stage term - up to one month, copies of the company's statutory documents will be required;
  2. Information about the company and the vacancy posted to it is submitted to the Employment Service. The term is from one to one and a half months. You need to provide OGRN, application and company profile, full information about the vacancy;
  3. If it is not possible to find the necessary specialist suitable for the level of qualification, the company applies to the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for permission to attract foreign workers. The decision is made by the Office and the Employment Service jointly. From the documents, copies of statutory documents, statistics codes and an application for the provision of services are required;
  4. The company submits a request for an individual entry permit for each invited foreigner. Here you will need the obtained permits from the previous stages, an application, a copy of the diploma of the visa applicant, medical certificates and payment of the fee;
  5. After receiving an invitation for migrants, an invitation is created, and the company is registered as inviting foreign workers. The documents are the same as in the previous step;
  6. The invitation is handed over to a foreigner for paperwork on his part.

The specialist must submit the following set of documents to the representative office of the Russian Federation:

  • A copy of the civil passport of a foreigner with a translation, the signature of the translator and notarization of its fidelity;
  • A copy of diplomas, certificates or other confirmations of the level of qualification, also with a certified translation;
  • Two passport-size photos;
  • A completed questionnaire of a standard form, a sample can be downloaded from the link;
  • Original health insurance policy covering the entire duration of the visa.

Registration cost

The price of a work visa consists of two areas of expenditure:

  1. Consular fee;
  2. Insurance policy.

The amount of the fee depends on the country of residence of the migrant. Standard amount approved by the decree of the government of the Russian Federation number 889:

  • Registration of a regular single entry visa on time up to 20 days - $ 50 USA, urgent (3 days in advance) - 100 dollars;
  • Multiple entry visa will cost 150 dollars, urgent option - 300 dollars.

The cost of health insurance depends on many variables:

  • Insurance company rates;
  • The size of the sum insured;
  • The health status of the migrant;
  • Additional options.

On average, the cost of an insurance day is from 30 to 150 rubles per day.

Employer's actions upon arrival of a foreigner

After arrival, the company is obliged to register the employee as having issued the invitation, as well as notify the state services about his enrollment in the state.

For the first step you will need:

  • The passport;
  • Migration card;
  • Work permit.

The processing time is about a month. After the conclusion of the contract and the issuance of the visa, the employer has ten days to notify the Main Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of this fact. The procedure is carried out at the office of the migration service or at any post office in Russia.

Is it possible to extend a work visa to Russia

According to the internal regulations, applications for a work visa extension are considered for about 1 month. In practice, consideration can be delayed for up to 3 months by constant extensions and bureaucratic delays. This will cause both fines to the employer and the possible deportation of a foreigner.

If the deadline is tight, you must:

  • Order an expedited visa extension process;
  • Apply to the visa center to speed up the work with documents;
  • In advance, request the necessary certificates and papers from the employer;

Despite the high cost of the first two services, it is better to spend money right away than after a few months trying to solve problems with visa cancellation and expulsion from the country due to violations of the visa regime.

In no case should you leave the extension for the last month - this is almost guaranteed to cause prolonged hassle and problems with the migration service.

A work visa is a variant of an invitation to the country from a local company. Obtaining the document falls on the shoulders of the employer, which is much easier than obtaining a "free" patent for work.
