The popular Portuguese resort Algarve will remain without tourists at best until April 2021. This was reported by Bloomerg, citing a statement from the head of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the region - Eliderico Viegas. Such restrictions are associated with the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection.

In the near future, the Algarve, which is the most popular among English and German tourists, will only accept locals. If the situation with the pandemic changes for the better by the appointed time, the resort will continue to work as usual.

Tourism is an integral part of the Portuguese economy, because its share is at least 15% of the country's GDP. It was the tourism business that received the biggest blow due to the situation with the coronavirus: in the spring of 2Q020, more than 85% of workers in this sector lost their jobs.
