Austrian citizenship allows you to live in the country without restrictions, move around the European Union, vote in elections. But the state still has a complex bureaucratic system. How to get Austrian citizenship without unnecessary stress and mistakes?

The benefits of living in Austria

Austria is in the top 15 best countries in the world. Differs in high levels of ecology, medicine and education, as well as career prospects. The minimum wage is 1 thousand euros, the degree of monetary well-being is 48,000 euros (12 times more than in Russia).

By immigrating here, you can take advantage of a number of benefits:

  • Free to study and work not only here, but throughout the European Union.
  • Move around the European Union without restrictions.
  • Travel to visa-free countries, including the United States.
  • Live in Switzerland.

But there are also downsides. The main ones are:

  • Expensive real estate.
  • Progressive taxation.
  • Differences in behavior between Austrians and Russians, which may cause confusion.

There are also minor drawbacks. For example, shops closed on Sundays, the difficulty of buying medicines in pharmacies. But they tend to get used to over time.

Preparatory stage

Training for CIS citizens includes meeting the conditions, collecting forms and filling out the documents themselves.

Methods of obtaining

There are four ways to obtain Austrian citizenship:

  • by blood;
  • marriage;
  • investments;
  • naturalization.

Each of them has certain conditions for obtaining.

By birth

Received by children born to Austrian parents. By itself, being born on the territory of the state does not give anything. A minor child receives it if the parent has it.

Naturalization

Upon naturalization (and some other methods), the following conditions must be met:

  • Lack of convictions and legal proceedings, there is even a limit on the number of fines.
  • Knowledge of German at the B1-B2 level.
  • Stable income sufficient to support yourself and your family (at least 1,000 euros per person).
  • Residence in the country for at least 10 years.
  • Having a valid residence permit.
  • Lack of espionage, hostile ties with terrorist organizations, etc.
  • Positive attitude towards Austria, high degree of integration.

Standard residency requirement - 10 yearsbut it can be lowered up to 6 years for the following persons:

  • Born locally but not children of Austrians.
  • Scientists, artists, businessmen and investors.
  • Recognized refugees.
  • Citizens of the European Union.
  • Those who came on a work visa, have worked there for at least 6 years and speak German at the B2 level.

Marriage

The easiest option is to marry an Austrian. In this case, the marriage must last at least 5 years, and live on Austrian territory not less than 6 years... Shared residence must be confirmed.

Investments

You May Also Like

There is also the option to acquire citizenship by investment. That is, if a person makes a great contribution to the Austrian economy. For instance:

  • monetary contribution in the amount 6-10 million dollars;
  • creating new jobs for Austrians;
  • expansion of exports, etc.

In this case, everything will be ready within 9-18 months... However, it is not necessary to know German.

Requirements for applicants

Depending on the method of obtaining, the following requirements are imposed on the applicant:

  • Knowledge of the language at a certain level.
  • Knowledge of the basics of Austrian history and social studies, confirmed by an appropriate test (minors are released).
  • A certain length of stay.
  • Material security.
  • Good reputation.

When investing, a person is exempt from some of the listed requirements.

Basic documents

First of all, you need to prepare a basic package of documents. These include the following:

  • statement;
  • a certificate of knowledge of German at the B1-B2 level (A1 when investing);
  • photograph 3.5 × 4.5 cm (not older than 6 months);
  • certificate of no criminal record;
  • the passport;
  • international passport;
  • birth certificate;
  • registration (registration at the place of residence);
  • bank statement on income;
  • medical insurance.

In the case of the through investment method, you must also provide:

  • letters of recommendation from banks and business partners;
  • an extract confirming the availability of funds and investments;
  • business plan.

For minors, proof of family ties and a statement from the adults with whom the child will live may be required.

You can clarify the individual list in the Magistrate. All documents must be translated into German and certified by the Apostille. Originals and copies are fed.

Impact of buying real estate

Buying a local property does not provide any privilege in obtaining citizenship. This can be an additional advantage when applying for a residence permit, but not a passport. However, own living space is one of the confirmations of material security.

Registration process

After collecting the basic package, you can begin the checkout process. First, you need to do the following:

  1. Apply for a residence permit.
  2. Apply for permanent residence after 5 years.
  3. After another 5 years - for citizenship.

To do this, you need to collect the main package of documents and send for consideration.

Where to contact

Contact the representatives of the Austrian embassy. First of all, go to the office of the district government and be interviewed. Next, apply to the Magistrate of your place of residence and take a history test (if required).

Translation of documents

Everything must be translated into German, and the copies must be certified by the Apostille. The translation must be done by a “court” translator, ie an official one. Apostille, confirming the accuracy of the translation, can be obtained from a notary.

Time and cost

The review procedure lasts, on average, 9-18 months. Once approved, the applicant can apply for an Austrian passport. The passport is valid for 10 years, then it will be offered to replace it.

The cost of registration is the difference depending on the federal state. The approximate price is as follows (in euros):

  • 600–900 for one person;
  • 900–1200 for a married couple;
  • plus 80 for each child.

Where to get a passport

The passport is ordered at the passport office at the place of residence. An identification plastic card is issued along with it.

Possible reasons for refusal

Refuse to issue may be if the applicant does not meet the conditions for obtaining, the documentation is executed incorrectly, etc.

You can lose it in the following cases:

  • Acquisition of citizenship, joining the military forces or working for the interests of another state.
  • If the applicant does not renounce his previous citizenship after receiving Austrian.

What to do in case of refusal

In case of refusal, you should understand its reason. Check compliance with all conditions, reissue documents. In case of withdrawal, restoration is not possible.

Double citizenship

The legislation has a negative attitude to this. Within two years after receiving the Austrian one, they propose to renounce the citizenship of Russia (Ukraine, Belarus). If the applicant is against, it is necessary to contact the migration service on this issue.

Exceptions

The following categories of persons are an exception to this rule:

  • born on the territory of the state ("by soil");
  • outstanding figures of art, science, sports, culture;
  • recognized refugees;
  • those who are denied exemption from citizenship by their home country.

And also in individual cases (for example, if income is lower than the cost of refusal, etc.).

Reviews

Despite the high taxes, the earnings are still decent. It is not customary to buy housing.The medical care is at a very high level. Education is free for citizens. The choice of food is extensive, by the standards of cost, the products are relatively expensive. Life here is better suited for wealthy people who are ready for the fact that they are not particularly friendly to migrants. But it is stable and comfortable.

Oksana

The quality of life is high, the education is good. Mostly they rent housing, it is difficult to buy an apartment. Excellent quality products. Life is expensive, after paying taxes, paying for an apartment and other waste of wages, there is no left. The 13th and 14th holiday salaries provide for recreation at the resort. You can live, but you need good security.

Tatyana

Thus, despite the complex bureaucratic system and long time frames, it is worth it. Immigration to Austria opens up many opportunities and prospects. The main thing is to take into account all the conditions and correctly draw up the documents.
