Most often, Russians and Ukrainians in the issue of emigration are guided by the EU countries, this is due to the relative accessibility (you do not need to fly far, as to the countries of Asia or the United States), a favorable climate and ecology. Slovenia looks very attractive for permanent residence. This is due to the location of the state, its culture and the degree of social protection of citizens.

Features of moving to Slovenia

Immigration to the republic should begin with opening a regular tourist visa and getting to know the country. If the decision to move is made, you need to decide on the reasons for the move.

There may be several of them:

  • Contract job;
  • Education in universities;
  • For family reasons (family reunification, marriage with a resident of Slovenia);
  • Doing business in the country;
  • Obtaining refugee status.

If we talk about the sequence of obtaining migration cards and a national passport, then the following picture will appear:

  • Obtaining a residence permit, after which you need to live in the republic for 5 years;
  • Subject to the appropriate conditions, you can obtain a permanent residence card;
  • After another 5 years, an application for citizenship must be submitted.

The visa application process, the required forms and the list of documents will vary depending on each case.

The latest information is available on the website of the Moscow Embassy of Slovenia www.moscow.embassy.si/.

What is required to move and obtain a residence permit

The first stage is obtaining a temporary residence permit (residence permit). The issuance period depends on the reasons for which the migrant is in Slovenia, but not more than 5 years.

The required package of documents that will be required for registration:

  • Statement;
  • International passport;
  • Identity card of the Russian Federation;
  • Medical insurance;

  • Certificate of the availability of finance for living in the country;
  • Certificate of housing availability - personal or rented;
  • A receipt for payment of the state duty for registration (if registration occurs for the first time -100€);
  • Papers where the purpose of the visit is confirmed (work contract, certificate from the university).

All documents must be translated into Slovenian and certified by a notary. Some will have to be apostilled. For example, for a certificate of no criminal record, which in some cases is asked to bring.

Work Visa

Registration of a work visa will be possible only after agreement with the employer. You can look for work either on the Internet or through recruiting agencies.

The problem is that for a small country the unemployment rate is quite high, and local employers try to employ foreigners only of very high qualifications:

  • Engineers;
  • IT specialists;
  • Doctors.

It is not profitable for Slovenes to hire migrants: they have to pay more taxes and fill out a lot of paperwork.

If a job is found, then you can apply for a residence permit for 1 year. Then it will be possible to extend the term for another year, and after that - for 3 years.

It will be possible to move your family to Slovenia only a year after employment.

Business activities

The toughening of the migration policy also affected businessmen. Now the procedure for starting a business and moving is as follows:

  • Company registration in Slovenia. The authorized capital must be at least 10 thousand euros;
  • After that, it will be possible to apply for a work visa;
  • After 12 months, they will be allowed to make a call for their family.

It will work if the business is viable. I must say that Slovenia is a small country, and the market is small here, and the locals are quite frugal people. Therefore, it is not easy for an entrepreneur to do business here and withstand competition. It is best to additionally focus on neighboring countries: Italy, Austria.

Reference. If an immigrant wants to invest in a ready-made business, then the amount that he will be asked to contribute will fluctuate within 30-50 thousand euros.

Education in universities

The largest university in the country - Ljubljana - has more than 64 thousand students, and Maribor - 26 thousand. The diplomas of these educational institutions are recognized in Europe.

For students from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, education will be paid. Exceptions are several educational programs www.moscow.embassy.si

Cost of education - 1500-3000 per year for future bachelors. For magistrates and doctorates, prices will be slightly higher.

Teaching is conducted either in Slovenian or in English. Additional documents will require a certificate with an enclosed leaflet.

Reference. For foreign students, the rule applies: 2 years of study are equivalent to 1 year of residence. This will affect the process of obtaining permanent residence.

After the issuance of the diploma, the specialist has the right to legally reside in Slovenia for another 6 months. During this time, he can find work in the country.

Family reunification and marriage

After 2019, there have been changes in the migration policy of Slovenia. Now family reunification is possible if one of its members not only received a temporary residence permit, but also lived for at least a year in the country.

In case of marriage with a citizen of the republic, only a residence permit will be issued; it will not be possible to quickly obtain citizenship. Even after 10 years of marriage, officials will carefully check whether the marriage is fictitious. If the fact of fraud is proven, the foreigner will be deported, and the second culprit will be fined.

Reference. A family union can be concluded on the territory of any country, but when applying for a residence permit, you will need to attach a marriage certificate (a certified copy translated into Slovenian).

Buying a property

Slovenian laws state that an individual, if he is not a citizen of the country, has no right to acquire land, apartments or houses.

The purchase of real estate by foreigners is possible only if they are legal entities. In other words, you can register a site for your own company, but not for yourself.

Reference. The cost of apartments in the republic is greatly overestimated. If we take into account the criterion of price and quality, then it is better to buy a house outside the city.

Obtaining refugee status in Slovenia

A person who has crossed the Slovenian border with the intention of applying for political asylum must do so within three days after entry. Otherwise, he will most likely be deported - he will be denied refugee status.

It is also necessary to prove to local officials that the applicant is not able to live in his homeland for objective reasons:

  • Persecution by the authorities;
  • Military operations are underway on the territory of the country;
  • Discrimination in society on any grounds.

All data will be carefully checked. If the employees of the migration service of the republic are convinced of the veracity of the applicant's words, then he will be provided with food and accommodation. But you shouldn't count on good work. At first, you will have to be content with hard and low-paid work.

Features of everyday life, pros and cons

Compatriots who leave for Slovenia very rarely come back. And this means that there are still a lot of positive aspects in the country.

Pros:

  • A small area, in a few hours you can cross the whole country;
  • Convenient location, there is a sea, a mild climate, winters are more usual for people living in the north;
  • After obtaining a residence permit, you can travel almost throughout the EU without a visa;
  • Extremely low crime rate;
  • No corruption;
  • There is no strong social stratification;
  • Local residents are multilingual: many people know English, German and Italian;
  • No influx of Arab refugees;
  • Not a very difficult language (although there is not much in common with Russian).

Minuses:

  • The country is small, people are conservative, which is not very good for business;
  • High taxes;
  • In large cities, cars are often stolen;
  • It is difficult to buy a home;
  • There is only one international airport in the country;
  • Some goods and products have high prices;
  • It is very difficult to find a high-paying job.

Most people note that the level of social protection is very high, due to high tax deductions, it is possible to pay benefits to retirees, women who are expecting children or caring for them, and so on without any difficulties.

How democracy and the connection between society and the state are developed in the country can be judged from only one episode. When a project was proposed to legalize same-sex marriage, the opposition insisted on holding a referendum, and since the local population reveres family values, the majority voted against the law.

Victoria (I left with my family for Slovenia three years ago).We emigrated to Slovenia from a small urban-type settlement, so when they say that it’s boring to live here, it’s strange for me to hear it. Yes, we do not have large cities, it is not customary to arrange noisy parties here, "stars" rarely come here. This country is for those who value family values, comfort, who love to travel and know how to save money.

Conclusion

Slovenia is an attractive country to live in. Good nature and ecology, free society, social security, peaceful population make it promising in terms of emigration. Every year the number of citizens from Russia and the CIS countries who have chosen to move here is growing.
