Maldives is a state in the south of Asia, located on 1000+ small islands. Five-star beaches, fish markets and luxury hotels welcome thousands of tourists every year.

Like any state, the Maldives has its own laws, which tourists need to know about in advance so that they do not have to pay fines and generally deal with the police, spoiling their vacation by debriefing. It is the responsibility of the travel agent to inform about the rules of conduct at the resort. You should not rely on a stranger in everything, it is better to "make inquiries" yourself.

Without exception, tourists and local people in the Maldives are prohibited from the following.

Ruining the ecosystem

The waters surrounding the Maldives are rich in corals, marine animals, and beautiful fish. In this regard, the law is officially prohibited:

  • Break and collect dead and living corals;
  • Fishing near the islands;
  • Remove shells from the water, damage them;
  • Collect shells, corals, etc from the beach;
  • Hunt;
  • Swim at night;
  • Throw away any debris.

Violate the dress code

Since the Maldives is an Islamic state, tourists are prohibited from appearing in bikinis or open clothes next to local residents. That is, in the resort area you can wear whatever you want, and when visiting residential islands, clothes should cover the body from shoulders to knees.

The beaches also have their own conditions - it is forbidden to sunbathe topless, to practice nudism.

Transport religious items, pets, and more.

You cannot bring to the Maldives:

  1. Any form of pork;
  2. Alcohol;
  3. Items that speak about the religion of the tourist (if it is not Islam);
  4. Pets (even if they fit in a lady's bag).

Items that may raise questions are listed. The forbidden list is much larger.

Take out certain things

Export is also punishable by law:

  1. Elements of nature;
  2. State currency;
  3. Crafts from materials of wildlife.
  4. It is better to request a complete list of things prohibited for export from the tour operator.

Behave indecently

It is unacceptable to appear on the islands of local residents in alcoholic intoxication (as well as to drink alcohol in public places), half-naked or naked. It is also not recommended to make noise without an extreme reason, to communicate cheekily with locals (especially with women).

Violation of local rules and the law can lead to a fine, trial or even imprisonment. All this will negate expensive vacations and erase pleasant impressions from memory.
