Finnair operates flights to major cities in different countries, offering a high level of comfort and good service. Many passengers have appreciated the advantages of the airline and prefer it. Affordable prices for air tickets, additional services on board and a convenient schedule will allow you to travel with safety and comfort without wasting time for transfers.

Finnair history

Finnair is the national carrier of Finland, the largest Finnish airline, founded on November 1, 1923. The first flight took place on March 20, 1924. At first, passengers were transported by seaplanes that landed on the water. After the construction of the first airports in Finland, the use of land aircraft began.

During World War II, the airline's fleet was used by the Finnish Air Force. In 1947, the government bought the company and resumed passenger flights. From that time on, the airline was renamed Finnair.

From 1960 to 1970, aircraft were modernized, engines were improved. In 1969, the first flight to the United States was made on an American jet aircraft.

In 1981, a flight from Western Europe to Japan was opened, laid on a special route bypassing the airspace of the USSR, which was closed to foreign airlines.

Since 1990, Finnair created a subsidiary airline Aero Airlines and bought the Swedish low-cost airline FlyNordic. In 2007, the fleet expanded with Finnair acquiring an additional 11 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft. Finnair has been trying to cut costs since 2021 to compete with low-cost carriers.

The owner of the airline with 55.8% of the shares is the government of Finland.

Finnair has air and freight subsidiaries.

At the end of 2021, the company had 79 aircraft in its fleet, carrying 11.9 million passengers a year. The company's turnover is 2,568 million euros per year with a net profit of 170 million euros.

The number of aircraft in the airline's fleet is constantly increasing. In 2021, there were 6 of them. Every year the company expands its fleet by 3-5 aircraft, and in 2021 the number reached 79. The best models are presented in the fleet:

  • Airbus A319-100 (OH-LVD);
  • Airbus A330-300 (OH-LTO);
  • Airbus A350-900 (OH-LWB);
  • Embraer 190 (OH-LKN).

There are no models older than 10 years in the aircraft fleet. The design of aircraft is constantly being updated, new lettering appears, the engine is repainted, the colors of the tail section are changing, and much more. And the uniform of the staff is recognized as the most stylish according to the French magazine Bon Voyage.

  1. First, choose the direction you want.

  1. Then enter your last name, booking number and e-ticket.

  1. Select seats.

  1. Enter your email to receive confirmation.

  1. Print your registration confirmation or save it electronically.

With online check-in, there is a chance to avoid queues at the airport. You can do it before leaving the airport, in a cafe or waiting room, where there is Internet access.

If you have not checked in online ahead of time, please do so at the airport self-check-in kiosk or check-in counter. Information about the counter number and flight schedule is displayed on an interactive scoreboard. If you have any questions, please contact the company's representative office in Moscow or call the hotline.

Baggage rules

Each passenger does not want to part with their belongings and wants to put as many items as possible in their hand luggage: a telephone, laptop, camera, glasses, etc. But, since there are a lot of passengers in the cabin, airlines set rules and restrictions on dimensions and weight.

Carry-on baggage should be no more than 56x45x25 cm in size and weigh no more than 8 kg. The maximum baggage allowance is 23 kg for all fares except Business Class, where the weight of a suitcase is limited to 30 kg. If an overweight is found in the carry-on baggage, the items will have to be checked in at an additional cost.

Items purchased in duty-free zones are considered carry-on baggage and must be sized appropriately.

Excess kilograms of baggage will have to be paid at the airport or on the official website. If you pay in advance for extra baggage through the website, the cost will be lower. For example, on intercontinental flights, it is $ 60 for one seat and $ 75 for a second seat. Excess baggage allowance on domestic flights is $ 20 for one piece and $ 30 for a second piece.

Excess baggage at the airport will cost $ 100 for the first seat and $ 75 for the second on intercontinental flights, on other destinations - $ 55 for the first seat and 30 for the second. An additional piece of baggage weighing less than 23 kg costs $ 30.

There are a number of restrictions on the carriage of liquids on board. A liquid is food (soup, jam), cosmetics (shampoos, lotions, perfumes), sprays, medicines, etc.

To take liquids with you, they should be poured into 100 ml containers or buy mini-versions at duty free. In addition, they must be packed in a transparent reusable bag. One passenger can carry a total of no more than 1 liter of liquid.

The following items cannot be taken on board:

  • manicure sets, scissors;
  • knives, tweezers, corkscrews;
  • skates;
  • matches, lighters;
  • high capacity lithium-ion batteries;
  • sports walking sticks;
  • explosive objects (sparklers, firecrackers).

As for the carriage of special baggage, Finnair is quite loyal in this matter. You are allowed to take a baby carriage, cradle, chair, crutches and other necessary items with you absolutely free of charge. If they are small in size, they are placed in the cabin; very large ones are checked in as luggage.

Baggage-free fares apply when you fly with hand luggage only.

Luggage is rarely lost, damaged or delayed, but it does happen. If this happens, please contact the arrival service at the airport. The staff will offer to fill out an application to search for baggage. Information about the progress of the search will be sent by e-mail.

If the suitcase is damaged and has lost its consumer properties, an application for damage to luggage is filled in and a request is submitted to the insurance company. If the damage is discovered later, a written notification to the airline will be sent by e-mail no later than 7 days later.

How to manage your booking

When booking tickets on the official website of the airline, it is possible to manage the booking and make a refund. Be careful not to make a mistake, as the cost of compensations and surcharges depends on this.

To cancel your reservation, please use the “Manage My Booking” option on the official website.

After entering your flight and ticket details, you will receive compensation, the amount of which depends on the type of ticket and the time remaining before the flight. If the ticket was bought through an agency, contact there - the managers will help you do everything right.

If you want to make changes to your booking details, Manage My Booking will also help. On the company's website, you can change the date and time of departure, if the ticket type allows it. The conditions applicable to the ticket are shown on the booking confirmation. Changes are not free and you will have to pay extra for fees and commissions.

In addition, the tickets themselves can be purchased online. For example, to buy a plane ticket via your phone, download the app.
