Each state has an indicator that economists consider the average income from labor, in other words, the average wage. It displays the standard of living in the country, therefore it is always interesting for people who want to change their place of residence or find a decent job abroad. Experts predict that the average salary in Israel in 2021 will show an increase of several percent.

Work in 2021 in Israel

In Israel, not only a fairly high level of wages of employees is recorded, but many social benefits are provided, which the owner of the enterprise is obliged to realize. Therefore, it is not surprising that work in Israel has become even more in demand for foreigners in 2021.

It is customary to start searching for vacancies by studying ads in specialized periodicals. Let's briefly name other ways to find a job.

  • Through web resources. On the Internet, there are ads directly from the employers themselves. But the salary announced in this way in Israel for foreigners rarely exceeds 4000 shekels per month (approximately $ 1143).
  • Through a recruiting agency. This option is suitable for highly qualified foreign specialists applying for a higher average monthly income.
  • Specialized employment programs. Each of the programs developed for Russians has its own characteristics. Some, for example, are designed for couples and guarantee that both spouses get a job. Other programs can speed up repatriation.

Minimum wage

The minimum wage in Israel is adjusted annually and set by government agencies after the size of the amount is agreed by the trade unions. For those who make money while on the payroll, the minimum income from work is 5,300 shekels ($ 1,450). All employees de jure have the same rights, but not all can count on this amount: there are exceptions, in particular, depending on age. These will be discussed below.

The minimum wage for hourly labor in Israel in 2021 is 30 shekels ($ 8.57). This indicator received such a value in March 2021, when the country switched from a 43-hour work week to a 42-hour one.

Note that it was planned to do this back in 2021. But the process slowed down and the next date was announced - 01.01. 2021, after which one more (last) - 01.03. 2021. Until that moment, the salary in Israel per hour for an adult worker was 28.5 shekels.

What is the average salary

The average salary for different professions is different. An employee's salary is a value derived from a combination of such factors:

  • the specialty itself;
  • qualifications;
  • work experience in a particular industry.

In addition, the average salary in Israel differs from region to region. Higher salaries for employees of enterprises located in Tel Aviv, Rishon LeZion, Jerusalem and Haifa.

The earnings of specialists employed in companies in Nazareth or Beit Shemesh are noticeably lower. In the country as a whole, the average labor income at the beginning of 2021 is approximately NIS 9,500.

The living wage in Israel is provided by social benefits, but it lags behind the poverty level. This situation is clearly demonstrated by the data from the table:

According to official figures from the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the average salary in Israel in shekels is 10,867 ILS (2,990 dollars) and fluctuates between 500-600 shekels throughout the year. However, according to the results of the last two years, the profit of trade, hotel and restaurant business has decreased. The drop in the level of wages in the sector of agro-industrial production for the same period was 4%.

Average salaries in Israel by profession

Many people wonder whether it is worth going to work in Israel. At first glance, it may seem that the above average 10,867 ILS is an impressive amount. But if you take into account the cost of utilities, food and travel by private or public transport, it becomes clear why some residents of the country are forced to save. After all, 65% of employees have wages barely reaching 7,500 shekels.

Workers are required in almost all industries. You can easily get a job in factories, factories and other manufacturing enterprises.

Below are the real salaries in Israel by specialty (in shekels):

  • equipment operator - 9 890,
  • cook - 6000,
  • welder - from 7,000,
  • nurse - from 3 800,
  • loader - 6 825,
  • electrician - 10 900,
  • security guard - 5 580,
  • dishwasher - 4 600,
  • pharmacist-pharmacist - 20 200,
  • lawyer-attorney - 21,000,
  • cosmetologist - 6,000,
  • plumber - 10 230,
  • engineer - 16 300,
  • bus driver - 8 700,
  • high school teacher - 7,500,
  • builders - 8 100,
  • educators - 6 300,
  • programmers - 27,500.

The salary of medical personnel deserves a separate discussion. The salary of a doctor in Israel is significantly higher than the average value of this parameter in the country. And, for example, the salary of a nurse fluctuates in the range of 11,000-13,000 new shekels.

Experienced and highly qualified surgeons receive from 24,500 ILS ($ 7,000). But the amount of earnings also depends on the type of practice: the income of a specialist in a private clinic and a state one differs in favor of the former.

Many people planning to obtain immigrant status are interested in how much they pay in the Israeli army.

The average salary of a private ranges from $ 100 to $ 200. But at the same time, part of the cost of utilities and the cost of renting an apartment is compensated from the army's budget for the lonely military. Moreover, if there is a clause in the lease agreement on the need for prepayment, the rent will be paid by the Israeli army six months in advance.

As in any other country, the salary of the unskilled worker in Israel is noticeably lower than the average. The situation is aggravated if an employee, who can only, for example, carry bricks or knead cement, is employed illegally. The maximum he can count on is 3500 ILS (1000 $) per month.

Continuing the conversation about the lowest paid specialties, it is worth mentioning another one. In November 2021, the reform of the care system for the elderly was launched in Israel. On the one hand, the goal pursued by this event is undoubtedly noble. But on the other hand, having learned how much they pay in Israel to care for the elderly, one can hardly expect an exuberant demand for a nurse's vacancy: it is difficult to recognize the amount of 3800 shekels as a worthy payment for such a difficult job.

And further. No matter what specialty a person works, it is possible that force majeure circumstances may arise that require delays at the workplace in order to prevent disruption of production plans.

Payment for processing in Israel assumes that:

  • the first 2 hours of overtime work are paid using a coefficient of 1.25 in relation to the base rate;
  • payment for each subsequent hour is made with a coefficient of 1.5.

Payment for labor in different regions of Israel

The average salary in the regions of the country differs markedly. This phenomenon is due to differences in the standard of living and the size of expenses. In particular, the highest average salary in Tel Aviv, as well as in Jerusalem - / 120 00 ILS ($ 3429). These two cities are the tourist and business centers of the country, and therefore the salaries are the highest there.

Below is the average income from employment in other major Israeli localities:

  • Nazareth, Modiin-Maccabim-Reut, Beit Shemesh, Hadera, Kfar Sava, Herzliya, Ashkelon, Rehovot - 7000 ILS / 2000 $;
  • Bat Yam, Raman Gan - 7500 ILS / 2143 $;
  • Bnei Brak - 8000 ILS / 2286 $;
  • Netanya - 8500 ILS / 2429 $;
  • Holon, Beer Sheva - 9000 ILS / 2571 $;
  • Ashdod - 9500 ILS / 2714 $;
  • Petah Tikva –10000 ILS / 2857 $;
  • Rishon LeZion –10500 ILS / 3000 $;
  • Haifa –11000 ILS / $ 3143.

How salary depends on age and gender

First, about age restrictions. The minimum wage in Israel for persons under the age of 16 who work part-time during the holidays is no more than 70% of the amount of an adult's cash payments.

The work of adolescents under the age of 17 is payable at a better ratio - 75%. For representatives of the younger generation, whose age is approaching 18 years old, the tariff is already 83% of the salary of an adult.

The data of a report published in December 2021 by the International Labor Organization show disappointing statistics: in most countries of the world, women's wages are on average 20% lower than men's. And in Israel this difference is even greater - 32%.

Even in Russia, the difference in the average earnings of women and men hovers around the 30.6% mark

Payroll taxes

Salary taxes in Israel are paid by all employed persons, and foreign specialists are no exception. The employer is responsible for the collection of fiscal fees on the income of citizens working under a contract of employment.

The rate of this tax is progressive. The rates effective at the beginning of 2021 are presented below:

  • salary from 5300 ILS / month - 10% rate;
  • up to 8900 ILS / month - 14%;
  • no more than 12800 ILS / month - 21%;
  • up to 19800 ILS / month - 31%;

Conclusion

The actual salary of an Israeli worker depends on his qualifications, field of work and industry. Not everyone has an average salary.

Income in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is higher compared to other regions, but food and lodging costs are also higher there. In small towns, the average salary does not exceed 7,000 shekels per month.

Israel attracts immigrants from the post-Soviet states by the ease of employment. In addition, an immigrant who has signed an official contract receives a salary not lower than the minimum wage (5300 ILS), he is provided with medical insurance and the entire package of social services.
