Over the entire period of the pandemic in Thailand, 2,960 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded, of which 2,719 people recovered, and 54 cases were fatal. According to preliminary forecasts, due to the pandemic, 6 million people will lose their jobs in the tourism sector, and the country's economy will lose 20% of the economic income that this industry brought.

In turn, Minister of Tourism Yutasak Supasorn said that the health and lives of citizens is the main priority, and "tourism can wait."

On Monday, April 27, information was received that in a few days the level of coronavirus infection decreased 10 times! In connection with the data on the decrease in the incidence, it was reported that Chinese citizens are interested in visiting Thailand in May.

The Minister of Tourism confirmed that he was contacted by Chinese airlines and expressed their interest in flying to Thailand, but this is not currently possible.

From May 1, some quarantine measures will be relaxed in Thailand: some enterprises will be opened, domestic tourism will be reintroduced, but only on the outskirts of the country.

And at the same time, some forced measures will continue to operate: social distancing and wearing face masks.

According to experts' forecasts, external tourism will open no earlier than June, and until May 31, Thailand has a ban on all international air flights. The only exceptions are: official flights, humanitarian aid, repatriation and cargo aircraft.

This information was confirmed by the government's Covid-19 Situational Management Center (CCSA).

And foreign tourists who are in Thailand will have their visas extended free of charge until July 31, Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesman Natapanu Nopkun confirmed the information.

The Minister of Tourism predicted that the economic recovery in the tourism sector could take about five months.

Economics experts do not indicate a specific time frame for economic recovery, but predict a fall in GDP by 5.3%.
