The British newspaper Daily Mail reports that the authorities of the Italian island of Sicily are concerned about the upcoming tourist season. In particular, to attract tourists, they are ready to pay half of the cost of a trip to the island and a third of the bill for hotel services. This step is forced by the current situation after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The country that survived the epidemic lost 27 thousand of its citizens. The diagnosis was confirmed in another 200 thousand patients. To combat the virus, production had to be halted and the strictest security measures had to be introduced. The country's economy suffered huge losses.

Before the pandemic, Italy had up to 13% of GDP due to the tourist business. Planning to remove restrictions, Italy is first of all ready to open borders for this particular area of business. At the moment, a serious reboot of this sector of the economy is planned.

In addition to these preferences, the authorities intend to pay for hotel accommodation (for example, one night out of three), open free access to museums and excavation sites.
