Australia marks a local victory over coronavirus infection - the Australian Capital Territory has officially become the first region of the continent to be declared completely free of an infectious disease. This information has been officially confirmed by the Australian Regional Authorities.
“The past day was marked by a complete absence of new cases of coronavirus infection. Doctors have not registered a single new patient with this infectious disease, with the global pandemic of which the whole world continues to fight. Previously, the total number of infected people in this area was 106 patients. Three of them died due to complications caused by the coronavirus, the rest recovered safely and got out of quarantine. Since that day, there have been no confirmed cases in the Australian Capital Territory, ”the government said in a statement.
Kerrin Coleman, who holds the position of the chief sanitary doctor of the region, confirmed that this figure was recorded for the first time in the last seven weeks, which passed under the sign of the fight against coronavirus. According to him, some quarantine restrictions continue to operate in the region, which is one of the measures to counter the pandemic. No such restrictions are planned to be lifted in the near future.
Shortly before this, a number of Australian states, including the administrative region of the Northern Territory, announced the partial lifting of restrictions on business and public life. For example, as early as May 2, the Northern Territory region reopened national reserves for visiting and allowed outdoor sports events. Cafes and restaurants are due to open in the near future. All this will be possible with the observance of the necessary measures, the main of which is social distancing.
As of May 4, 2021, 6,749 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Australia. The first such case was confirmed on January 25, since then 93 patients have died from complications caused by this infectious disease, 5,715 people have managed to recover. Another 93 patients are being treated in a hospital, 38 people are in intensive care units. About 850 coronavirus patients remain on outpatient treatment.
An outbreak of coronavirus infection was recorded in December 2021. The first focus of the spread of the disease was Central China, from where the virus spread to other regions of the country, and then spread throughout the world. In five months, more than three million people were infected with the coronavirus, 220 thousand patients worldwide became victims of the pandemic.
