The Republic of Romania (capital - Bucharest) is part of the European Union, but the Schengen visa is not valid on its territory. Therefore, the registration of documents allowing entry into the territory of this country takes place in a special order.

Categories of visas to Romania

In 2021, the following types of entry documents are relevant:

  • Category "A" - transit type, does not allow going outside the airport or train station. If the transfer is carried out within 24 hours, this document is not required;
  • Type "B" - means transit by car, train or air transport. You can go out into the city, but only for 5 days;

  • Visa "C" - short-term migration card, gives the right to stay in the country up to 90 days (within a period of 180 days)... It cannot be extended in Romania itself. Legal employment is also not possible;

  • Category "D" - gives the right to enter for a long period (more than three months). Extension is allowed in local offices for work with foreign citizens.

If a person has received one of these visas, then he can only stay in Romania. Visits to other countries are not allowed.

The length of stay of a foreign resident in Romania is determined individually, depending on the purpose of the visit.

  • Transit permits imply that the tourist will stay in the country from one day ("A") to 5 days ("B");
  • Category "C" allows you to stay in the republic for no more than three months;
  • The D visa is valid for up to 90 days, but it can be extended by the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Extension of visas

Russians, Belarusians, citizens of Kazakhstan have the right to extend a visa on the territory of Romania, if it is type "D". But this requires good reason.

The rest of the types are renewed in a general manner - at home.

Refusal to obtain a Romanian visa

A negative decision can be made:

  • In case of difficulties with documents (errors in the application form, forged papers);
  • If previously there were problems with the migration service of Romania or the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic;
  • Applicant in the "Black List" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic;
  • If the applicant has a criminal record;
  • When the tourist has too little funds in the account.

If a citizen has previously visited Iran, Lebanon and some other Arab states, he can also be denied a visa, although this is rare.

In cases where a negative decision was made, the applicant has the right to quickly eliminate the problem (if possible) and reapply.

Reviews from real users

Svetlana (Moscow):

“My husband and I were applying for tourist visas at the capital's consulate. Brought the documents:

  • Passports;
  • Hotel reservation;
  • Airplane tickets;
  • Letters from banks indicating balances;
  • Documents for individual entrepreneurs (husband is an entrepreneur);
  • Copies of all pages of Russian and foreign passports and photographs.

We wanted to order an urgent visa (for 140 euros), but the consular officer did not take the money, explaining that it was difficult for them to issue urgent visas. My husband could not have come to receive a ready-made visa (since he worked), but they explained to me that it’s okay. They took the payment of the consular fee in cash and returned the change. The employee, studying the printouts of the accounts (the husband has a separate individual entrepreneur account), shook her head for a long time, said that it was advisable to bring a separate statement from the bank, but in the end she accepted what she had. Bottom line: a week later she arrived alone (without her husband) and received both passports with visas. "

You can apply for a visa to the republic both in person and online. Citizens of Russia and the CIS countries usually have no problems. It is very important to follow the rules for filling out the questionnaire and provide all the necessary papers.
