Finding an official job for a foreigner in Thailand is not so easy. To work officially, you need to have the appropriate permit, work visa, documents proving special education or work experience.

Prohibited professions for foreigners

A foreigner cannot work in the professions for which the citizens of this country work. There is a list of permitted and prohibited activities for non-Thai nationals.

Let's start with the prohibited ones:

  • production, sale and maintenance of firearms, ammunition, military materials;
  • activities affecting art and national culture (production of local musical instruments, jewelry, tableware);
  • activities affecting minerals and the environment (sugar cane production, rock salt mining, manufacturing of wood products);
  • service sector;
  • Accounting;
  • legal, engineering and architectural business services;
  • construction only if it does not provide vital services to the local population;
  • the sphere of the hotel business (only hotel management is allowed);
  • sale of drinks and food.

Allowed professions

But there are also professions that a foreigner can master in Thailand without breaking the law:

  • requiring high qualifications and expert assessment;
  • leaders and teachers in research institutes;
  • layout designers and editors in local newspapers.

But the most widespread profession among the Russian population in Thailand is freelancers. They cooperate with Russian companies, working as programmers and web designers. You can try to get an illegal job as a nanny or housekeeper in a Thai family, but you need to be a professional in this area and have appropriate recommendations.

If you have enough financial resources, you can easily open a business here. But it should be borne in mind that a foreigner will not be full-fledged owners of his business, because under Thai lawnot less than 75% the business must be owned by a Thai owner.

A foreigner will master all professions permitted in Thailand only if he knows English or Thai at least at an intermediate level. If you do not have permission to work, the migrant can be arrested by the police. At best, he will be deported, and at worst, imprisoned.
