Airline Lufthansa (LH) is the main structural part of the largest aviation concern in Europe - Deutsche Lufthansa AG (Lufthansa Group), better known as Lufthansa. Its main technical and transport bases are located at the airports of Frankfurt am Main, Munich. Carries out transportation within Germany and to other countries. In February 2021, the British aviation rating agency Skytrax awarded the company - the first in Europe - with a 5-star quality certificate.

A little about the company

The merger of Deutsche Aero Lloyd (DAL) and the aviation concern Junkers Luftverkehr on January 6, 1926 formed Lufthansa ("air union"). Its trademark is the crane logo. Previously, this emblem was owned by the subsidiary DAL.

During World War II, LH aircraft were used for military missions. After Germany's surrender, the Allies banned the corporation because of its collaboration with the Nazis.

In 1953, LH was re-created at first as Luftag, and a year later it was renamed Lufthansa again. The company address is Flughafen-Bereich West, D-60546 Frankfurt am Main. IATA code: LH. The headquarters of the aviation concern is located in Cologne.

In April 1955, the air carrier opened its own regular air community. In 1997, Lufthansa formed the large Star Alliance business group with four other airlines. Participates in Miles & More, a bonus accumulation program that can later be spent on purchasing tickets.

In 2021, Lufthansa's turnover amounted to 35.58 billion euros, net profit was 2.37 billion. Together with subsidiaries, 1.1 million flights were performed, 130 million people were transported. Lufthansa carried 65 million passengers directly.

In February 2018, LH's operating performance improved. There was an increase compared to last year's period:

  • the number of departures by 5.9% - up to 41,311;
  • traffic by 5%, up to 10,046 million passenger kilometers;
  • total passenger traffic by 6.5%, amounted to 4,528 million people;
  • seat occupancy - up to 75.9% (0.2%);
  • offers (maximum passenger turnover) by 4.7% - reached 13,233 million seat-kilometers.
