Goa's Minister of Tourism, Manohara Aigaonkara, said tourism activities at local resorts have been completely stopped pending the development of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Manohara Aigaonkara emphasized that after the creation of a vaccine against coronavirus, it will be necessary to restore tourism in Goa from the very beginning, "to return to the concept of development of the 1960s."

It should be noted that the peak of the influx of foreign visitors fell on 2007, but then the social and transport infrastructure could not cope with the growing number of tourists. Currently, the industry has completely stopped its activities, which has become a serious damage to the local economy, in which the tourism sector is the main source of income.

After the pandemic, local authorities plan to develop a new concept for the development of the industry in order to interest wealthy tourists who will appreciate the culture of the state, and not “savages” on the beaches, ”said Minister Aigaonkara.

And this is not just speculation: according to police reports, after the departure of foreign tourists, the crime rate dropped by 67%. Local authorities intend to maintain such a low dynamics of crime even after the pandemic, by attracting tourists with prosperity.

Tourism in Goa has been successfully developing for 10 years, but will it be possible to rebuild the industry from scratch after the pandemic? Time will answer this rhetorical question.
