Foreigners entering Russia from countries with which the state has agreements on a visa-free regime are faced with the need to issue a migration card of the Russian Federation. The correctness of filling out this document often depends on how easy it will be for a visitor to get other papers necessary for a legal stay in the country.

What is a migration card

This document is used by the migration service in order to track the periods of stay of a foreign citizen on the territory of the state. The completed form contains basic information about the visitor and is subsequently used to draw up the rest of the papers approved by the migration legislation.

Based on it:

  • Make a temporary registration at the place of residence;
  • Apply for a patent for the work.

When trying to get a residence permit or a residence permit, the migration service will definitely ask the applicant for the original migration card.

The document is a standard form, into which a foreigner enters his data. Subsequently, the information from the form is recorded in the unified register of the border service. Each card contains a unique number by which a control officer can easily establish its authenticity.

The form for filling is issued free of charge. Registration of the document also does not require any financial investments.

All citizens of the CIS countries will need to fill out the form when crossing the Russian border. The only exceptions are Belarusians. The agreement concluded between Russia and the Republic of Belarus gives the citizens of the countries the right not to draw up this document when crossing the border. Belarusians can freely enter the territory of the Russian Federation.

Despite the aggravation of relations between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainians continue to enjoy a visa-free regime. However, filling out a migration card when crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border is a prerequisite for them. The same rule applies to Kazakhstanis.

Where to get a migration card

The document is drawn up in the process of crossing the state border of Russia. You can get a form to fill out from the bus driver or from the border guard if the foreigner travels by his own car.

The completed form is checked and certified by the employees of the control service, the data from the card is entered into the database. A foreigner is given a tear-off spine in his hands, which he must keep for the entire period of his stay in the territory of the host country. Only then can the traveler continue to move.

Reference! At the border, they may refuse to certify a migration card if the foreigner is in the register of persons who are not allowed to enter the territory of the receiving state. In this case, he has no right to cross the border and must return to his country.

How to fill in correctly

The form is filled in for each entrant. Minor children are no exception. Information in the form is entered in block letters using the Cyrillic alphabet. Only foreigners who do not speak Russian are allowed to fill out the document in Latin letters.

You can use a blue, black, or purple ink pen to enter information. The use of other colors in the document may be regarded as incorrect filling. In this case, the verifier will require the document to be reissued.

If you make any mistake when filling out and you need to make corrections, it is better to ask the border guard to issue another blank form. A template with blots and errors will not be certified.

Reference! Detailed instructions for filling out are located on the back of the form. Before entering information, you must carefully read it. Also, at all checkpoints, there are mandatory samples of filling out the migration card.

The card is filled in directly by the person in whose name it is drawn up. It is unacceptable to involve third parties in entering information.

It is necessary to enter in the form:

  • Surname, name, patronymic (if any) - in block letters in the appropriate columns;
  • Date of birth in full (day, month, year) - enter in the cells designated for this;
  • Foreigner's gender - check the box next to the required definition;
  • Existing citizenship - enter in the appropriate field;
  • Passport data (number, series) - rewrite from a document (civil or foreign) used to cross the border;
  • The purpose of entry is to select the desired definition and underline;
  • Information about the receiving party - indicate the last name, first name, patronymic and registration address;
  • Duration of the proposed visit - indicate how long it is planned to stay on the territory of Russia.

The document consists of two parts, marked with the letters A and B. Both parts must be completed. After the border control officer certifies the document, part B is given to the entrant. The first half will be kept in the archives of the service.

Purpose of the visit

One of the most important points is the designation of the purpose of visiting the country. The form offers to choose it from several proposed options:

  • Work;
  • Studies;
  • Private;
  • Tourism;
  • Other.

You only need to specify real data. It is not possible to change the purpose of the visit while in the country. To do this, you will have to leave the country and cross the border again.

If a non-compliance with the goal specified in the document is revealed, a fine is awaited from the actual violator 5,000 rubles and expulsion from the country. It is also possible to issue an entry ban in the future.

If a foreigner, when crossing the border, indicated the purpose of the visit "private visit", and then tried to obtain a labor patent, he will be refused.

Length of stay

The migration document is valid for 90 days. If the duration of the visit is less than this segment, then it is worth indicating this. To do this, enter the date of the intended departure from Russia. In cases where a foreigner has arrived for a long time, the full term (3 months) is entered in the form. After the expiration, the term can be extended.

The nuances of filling

The column "for service marks" is filled in by the border guard officers. The date of entry should also not be entered.

Sample of correct filling

The most common mistakes when filling out the form include:

  • Entering false data;
  • Bug fixes;
  • Incorrectly specified periods of stay;
  • An indication of the purpose of the visit, which does not correspond to the truth.

What to do if your migration card is expired

If the card expires, it must be renewed. To do this, you need to contact the FMS department with a statement, which indicates the basis for further stay in the country.

These include:

  • Request for obtaining a RVP;
  • Certificate of enrollment in an educational institution;
  • Labor contract;
  • Consideration of an application for asylum or refugee status;
  • Obtaining a labor patent.

If there is no reason for an extension, you must cross the border, enter the country back and issue a new document for a period of 3 months.

For violation of migration legislation and residence on the territory of the state after the expiration of the permit, an administrative penalty is provided.

If the card is expired, you must contact the FMS with a corresponding request. Employees will record the violation and indicate the details for paying the fine. After that, it can be extended, subject to the existence of the statutory grounds. It is best not to expire the document, to renew its validity in a timely manner.

Reference! It is possible to avoid paying a fine if there is a valid reason due to which the foreigner has not timely renewed the document. For example, a serious illness.

What to do if you lose your migration card

If a foreigner has lost or badly damaged the document, he will have to visit the nearest FMS department and request the issuance of a duplicate. There is no punishment for a lost migration card in the legislation. A duplicate is issued at the request of the owner free of charge.

A migration card is the main document required for a foreigner arriving in Russia. Without this form, it will not be possible to register at the place of residence, apply for a labor patent or apply for citizenship. Without a migration card, a foreigner will not be able to legalize in the country.

In addition, the departure of a citizen of another state from the country without this document will be quite problematic. A foreigner will have to pay a fine for violating the migration legislation of the Russian Federation. The Migration Service can also ban him from entering the country for the next 3-5 years.
