The Hong Kong government has passed a resolution to lift certain restrictions previously introduced as part of quarantine measures. The corresponding decree was adopted after the epidemiological situation in the region has improved significantly. The number of officially registered cases of coronavirus infection is decreasing every day.

As of May 8, cafes, bars, restaurants, cinemas, gyms, massage and beauty salons in Hong Kong will be able to reopen. However, some restrictions on certain types of activities will still remain in force until further government orders. They are also expected to be filmed on May 21st.

Starting from May 27, high school students of local schools will be able to return to classes. From June 8, middle school students will do the same, and on June 15, it will be the turn of elementary school groups. Starting Friday, May 8, townspeople will be allowed to gather in groups of up to eight, although there is currently a restriction that prevents companies from more than four from forming. At the same time, the summer areas of cafes and restaurants should be set up tables at a distance of at least one and a half meters from each other.

The city will still continue to ban karaoke and nightclubs, but if the trend towards a decrease in the number of coronavirus cases continues, these establishments will be open by early summer. Bars will be open on Friday, with a ban on live performances and dancing for the time being.

The restrictions were introduced by the Hong Kong authorities on March 29, later the quarantine was extended first until April 23, and then until May 7 inclusive. In mid-March, a compulsory observation was introduced for all entering the city, from March 25, Hong Kong closed its borders to foreigners, including citizens of mainland China, Taiwan and Macau.

According to official statistics for Hong Kong, the total number of coronavirus cases in the city as of May 6 is 1,040 patients, of which 900 have recovered and four have died.
